Undoubtedly, the Bottle Match is the highlight of our annual calendar. It has been running since 1902, making it the second oldest varsity match in the world, only out-aged by the Oxbridge boat race. It is an ancient rivalry between the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College London, and the Camborne School of Mines at Exeter University. With such a legacy, the players know what they are fighting for, and each year the competition gets more fierce.
All of the RSM sports teams participate in the disciplines of football, hockey, squash, netball, tennis, lacrosse and badminton for their own respective trophies to the hundreds of spectators before the standout event of Bottle Match, the rugby. This match alone decides who keeps the coveted Bottle for the year. The Bottle is the official match trophy, a 3-ft beer bottle ‘acquired’ by RSM students in 1946 from a Bass-Charrington beer lorry. With successes in 2024 and 2025, RSM have successfully won back to back bottles, but can we make it 3 for 3?
Lets hope so, UP THE MINES!!!
Another bottle win for the rugby, and overall win for all the sports
