The RSMA or Royal Schoool of Mines Association is the official alumni base for the RSMU. They often hold events and support students in many ways. Below is a message from the RSMA president, Paul Holmes.
Paul Holmes - RSMA President
The Royal School of Mines Association was formed in 1873 as the RSM Old Students’ Dining Club. The aims of the Club were to promote the RSM and to support the students with membership subscriptions. The Association was formally inaugurated in 1913. Despite its age the Association remains a relevant institution and contributes to students, the RSMU and the alumni. Members’ subscriptions and donations are used to provide for:
• Grants for the RSMU to support student activities such as the Bottle Match weekend, careers evenings and Awards Dinners
• Departmental Clubs, Societies, Arts and Expedition Grants
• 100 Club Final Year Bursaries for students who show special RSM spirit.
• RSMA Prizes to students for essays and Members for long-term exceptional service to the RSM and RSMA
• Subsidised student tickets to the RSMA Annual Dinner and Final Year BBQ
• (Importantly) grants and loans made to cover student hardship and to further education.
The RSMA organises career evenings for the RSMU where Association members talk about their careers and offer advice on life after RSM. This is complemented by a mentoring scheme to provide ongoing assistance on careers and job hunting.
Student membership is free, and all students are encouraged to sign up at Membership – RSMA!
